Prospects of Renewable Energy Sources in Russia

Plenary Session

The world is moving towards a growing use of green energy. By 2050 already, 50% of global energy demands are expected to be satisfied with wind and solar generation. Russia can’t stand apart from this process of global energy transfiguration driven by renewable energy sources. However, even on the level of program documents regulating Russian energy policy, a gap between goals and objectives of RES development can be observed. The progress of RES introduction in Russia should be not preserved only, but sped up as well. The session is devoted to the future and the present of green energy, as well as measures of support for electricity generation through the use of renewable energy sources on the wholesale electricity and capacity market and prospects of RES support after 2024.

The Program of Renewable Energy Equipment Localization in Russia: the Russian Context

Session on Localization

Co-organizers: Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, RAWI

RES development in Russia has been recently given an impetus necessary for its active growth. However, it has been accompanied by a stringent governmental requirement for localization of equipment used for construction and operation of power plants. The governmental requirement for localization is determined by a focus on large international industrial companies, whose entry into the Russian RES market will ensure transfer of technologies. In future, it will enable production of equipment for the new Russian energy industry to be localized with maximum involvement of domestic companies. Localization incentives have already brought results. The largest Russian and international companies that have become leaders of the industry, including Rosatom, Enel Russia and the Wind Energy Development Fund established jointly by RUSNANO and Fortum, are planning to create three independent high technology industrial enterprises to produce wind turbine elements. Technologies will be transferred by world leading producers, including Vestas, SiemensGamesa and Lagerway. Enterprises producing indirect equipment for solar generation facilities construction are established and operate in field of solar energy. The session is focused on main stages of the localization process for parts of wind turbine and solar power stations in Russia and support of best possible interaction between suppliers and key customers of the industry.
