The Governor of Ulyanovsk became the first winner of the Russian prize for development of the wind industry

In his opinion, the region is the motherland of new Russian wind industry sector.

The first Golden Wind Prize awarded by the Russian Association of Wind Industry (RAWI) for his contribution into development of the sector was awarded to Governor Sergey Morozov of Ulyanovsk Region at the All Renewable World Energy (ARWE) International Forum.

"As is usually the case with any new phenomenon, any market, provided there is legislation in place, and all the conditions are in place, someone will always appear who will take upon himself all the risks and offer all the courage necessary to open the doors to a new industry. And in the wind industry we have such a man, Governor Sergey Ivanovich Morozov of Ulyanovsk Region," RAWI Chairman Igor Bryzgunov said during the ceremony.

He had previously called Ulyanovsk Region "the motherland of the new Russian wind industry." The region became the first venue in Russia where Fortum started building a wind park. At least seven other wind parks with the total capacity of 271 MW will be created in the region before 2021, the head of the region said. Previously Morozov had talked about the plans to reach the regional output of wind-generated energy in the amount of 1 GW by 2024.

The Golden Wind Prize of the Russian Association of Wind Industry was founded in February 2019. It will be awarded in four nominations every year: "For contribution to the development of Russian wind power industry," "For contribution to the development of Russian wind turbine industry," "For contribution to the development of wind farms construction in Russia," "For contribution to the development of innovative designs of sub-megawatt wind turbines and associated power supply systems." The candidates will be nominated by the Association and selected in open contest.
